Sundays wine adventure

Into Sunday 17th and we continue our wine adventure. After breakfast we wanted to see if we could fine some bike for rent, but not at 10am on Sunday. Heading back so we changed the tour from the local San Luis Obispo area and heading for Pablo Robles. There are too many vineries to choose from so we decided to take a scenic route and not the 101 straight to Paso Robles. If that was a good choice or not, not sure, as the roads was very bad marked and we got to see the area without hitting the right way at first try and we needed to turn around more than once.
We got to Santa Margarita, and it was as we was out of town there we missed on the road first time and not see the 58 sign, then get on to the 229 across to Creston was also a challenge, but when we got into the 229 it was a great experience to see the landscape around and farms for sale. It was not our area so we are not tempted but enjoyed it. After some time we also got to Union Rd and Rockin’R winery. (http://www.rockinrwinery.com/)

We enjoyed the blends they made there, either it was white, rosé or red.

I think we ended up with 3 different blends in our box.

If we enjoy it when we get back to Houston we know to get more. Both the Kisses from a Rosé and My Way.

Almost next door the more famous winery with larger volume of grape produced. Tobin James Cellars, just before we turned our nose to 46 and head for Paso Robles.

On our trip we have learned to enjoy some other grapes than what we are used to, digging into the Merlot and here we found some good Zinfandel too.
Their Syrah Rosé was also worth to buy but we did not so one bottle of the Zinfandel “Balastic” and a bottle of the more sweeter later harvest Zinfandel “Liquid Love” The perfect wine for that special someonen, front of the fire on your love rug.

From Tobin James we headed down the road and came cross Meridian. (http://www.meridianvineyards.com) We had noted us the vinery so we got a quick turn into their long driveway up to the tasting facility. Impressive outside as well inside, with a lot of grapes to see, yes 800 acres so not a small vineyard.

We was a bit hungry and as this place had wine & cheese pairing we went for it. The pairing was excellent. They had done a good job. Meridian 2009 Pinot Grigio matched very well with the White Stilton. So was the 2009 TAZ Chardonnay with the Italian cheese Piave Vecchio.

When we had the red 2009 Pinot Nior it was matched with a Cranberry Cream Cheese lovely with the wine and its succulent cherry & raspberry fruit. With the 2009 Dusi Zinfandel Dutch 2 year old Gouda and in the end 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon matched with an Italian Gorgonzola Dolce. What a lunch, could it be better? Wonder if they have the same at their sister winery Beringer in Napa?
Last tasting for the day was at Eberle! We had expected more from a large vinery like this, nothing that could convince us bring something with us back home like it did with the tree other vineries.

Best maybe was the tasting was complementary and they have a nice wine tasting facility. In addition need to mention, our taste is our taste so this should not stop you visiting them it is possible for good food with a view and a play of Bocca.

So where was Paso Robles? Signs are not easy to find and if they have a city centre we did not see it. Fill up the tank and head home for San Luis Obispo, cappuccino a rest and some nice Italian dinner again at “Vieni Vai Trattoria”. (http://www.vienivai.com/)

We had seafood from the grill yesterday perfectly cooked at the grill along with great pasta and my Insalada Caprese was great to. They just could leave out the chickpea. Yesterday we had Italian Pinot Grigio, today I will go for an Italian Cianti Classico. Look forward to it, great atmosphere and great service.
Best regards the blogger
