Motels and Inn’s on the road

Based on our 3 weeks road trip and visit to different Motels and Inn’s some recommendations have been given, but I would like to put them all together in on presentation and take some other views and implement some other comments along the way.

Due to our lack of experience we had pre-booked the first two stays on the road to Temecula in addition to the 5 stays in California in the 5 different wine district we where to visit.
Being on the road and on transportation stages we was not looking to the individual place could offer other than a bed and a shower in the morning, if there was breakfast, fine, but no necessity. There was a “breakfast” at Comfort Suits in Fort Stockton where we had our first stay.
Nice clean place that had easy access to I-10 we followed most of the way west.
With a price of above $120 USD it was the most expensive on our travels to and from California not including the 5 in Wine areas.
I am sure we could have cut down the travel time to two days and one stop instead of our two stops, but that as well is part of the learning curve.
So Comfort Suits is to recommend, but do not expect too much for breakfast, we enjoyed both the fitness room and Jacuzzi after a long day on the road, and it was good before we tried to find something to eat in the neighborhood and there was, nothing fancy, but to solve two hungry people desire of food.
Next stop was Casa Grande. A Best Western with room to a price of $85 USD and no breakfast. But with Denny’s next to the entrance both breakfast and “dinner” was available within reach.

With my wish to find places to stay that was close to I-10, this was almost just next to it as well.

So for us wanted to hit the road early Sunday morning July 10th we rather stopped at the first gas station on the road for our morning coffee and a bagel than Danny’s. Picky maybe, but could also get some extras like water that was needed.
Best Western in Casa Grande also had the gym and a Jacuzzi we could enjoy, other than that it was a good night sleep we enjoyed, but that what you can expect on a place for $85 USD or less.

I will not put our stays at the Inn’s, but compare the Motels on the road so I jump on this to our on the road back home.
Ahead of us leaving Napa was a 2200 miles trip and 3 nights sleep.
To make sure to have an end destination for the AT&T Navigator I had put in the address for Day Inn Wendover. They may call it Inn, but for me it was a Motel. Getting to Wendover and our experience driving first to Temecula and also along the coast of California we knew we would find something just to jump into.
Arriving in Wendover early evening we took an quick changed and headed for a Choice Hotel, Quality Inn Stateline, on the board line for Utah and Nevada on 1300 meter above sea level.

It was close to something to eat, not fancy at the close casino on the other side in Nevada, but we had a good night sleep there as well, but Laila was quick out of the restroom in the reception area next morning. DIRTY, just one word, keep the place clean please. Good the room was ok, should have used the bath room before we handed in the keys in the morning, just another experience.
We did not worry about the 705 miles that Google Earth told us it would be for our next stop in Colorado Spring. The Motel we had plotted in at the Navigator should have available room. However when we got there it was fully booked, so we needed to go for our open mind and hit a bit further south of the city and find something close to I-25.
Picked something new for a change, motel 6, give it a try, room available, with room service for us hungry people.

Room ok and good bed for the $58 dollar we paid, good enough for us to pick an address south of Oklahoma City for our last stop with the same chain.
The room service was a service in the room advising about a number to call and deliveries would be made to this “181” site as this motel had.
That the operator in the other end had difficulties to understand my English-English and I had to use my patient was ok, the food when it was delivered 45 minutes later as promised, the salad was ok, the lasagna was more a pasta sauce than lasagna, but I am sure it was my bad pick and there could be something that would be better choice.
Getting to our last stop on the 3 week’s vacation the Motel6 in Norman just south of Oklahoma City had an inviting presentation inside as outside. That the rate was $ 73 USD was also inviting for a stay. We had stopped on the way so we did not need any food this evening, we even did not look for any in the area either. Looking forward to get back home to Houston, so what is our experience?

Going on a road trip from Houston to California and back is no big deal. Finding a place to stay between $50-100 is no problem including it will be good places to stay. Some can disappoint you with special issues, but most of them will have good beds, good bath rooms and reasonable facilities. Please note this is my individual experience and expectations.

At one of the Motel6 I picked with me the directory listings and when we had east next summer I will bring it with me so I know there is one close to where I intend to stop. Good quality for the price paid.

Please keep in mind to have a city in the area where you intend to stop as it will be there you will find most motels, not out in the dessert. And make sure you have gas on the tank as you drive when you look for a place to stay.
